Unfortunate News

Due to a gross miscommunication between USA Rugby and the Baylor RFC, the Texas Rugby Union has forced Baylor to forfeit its Quarterfinal Victory against the University of Dallas.

USA Rugby had sent an invoice ($100) that none of the Baylor Club Officers received. Upon noticing that there was an error within the online registration system stating “Pending Payment, Not Valid for Competition” the Baylor club President tried on several different occasions to try and pay the amount online. Little did he know that once an invoice is “sent” you can no longer make online payments.

To make a long story short because of this massive miscommunication the forfeit has been handed down. This is very disappointing considering all the effort and hard work that all the guys and their coach, Nick Lane, have put in over the course of the season.

It looked like Baylor had a very strong chance to advance to the Western Playoffs. They were set to face Angelo State (whom they defeated earlier in the season). Then would have most likely been paired with Texas State (whom they defeated in a friendly earlier in the year).

What a tough pill to swallow to end the season…

Baylor downs UD

Team PhotoBaylor started off well against the University of Dallas, we received the opeining kick off and charged straight towards the UD line. We were in there half for the first 15 mins, at the 12th minute Baylor received a penalty from around 25m out. Scrumhalf Ryan took a quick tap, not once, not twice but 3 times, and eventually with a little help from his forward pack he plowed over for the 1st try.

Baylor went to sleep from this point on and did not wake up until around the 60th, during this middle section of the match we allowed Dallas to throw the ball around and disrupt our play. They managed to score a converted try and were in front 7-5. One of our new guys, Sam Riley who was playing wing was given a yellow card for a repeated infringement, luckily we managed to hold on with 14 players for the 10 mins.

Finally in the last 10 mins and with all 15 players we started putting a few phases together. ‘Tex’, our good ole boy from South Padre, playing on the wing got a hold of the ball and with some work to do, he managed to cross in the corner. The conversion was not successful, leaving the scores at 10-7. Obviously this inspired the guys and we put together a great team try, it came from a good line out win, about 22m from UD’s line, we put 3-4 phases together, we had the numbers to the right and eventually with good hands, captain and no.8, Rob de Board, scored right under neath the posts. The try was converted, leaving the score at 17-7.

As we say in rugby ” win is a win”, we were lucky to get out of this match when really Baylor only played 30 mins with their minds in the right place. To all the players, we can not afford to do this against Angelo as the result may not fall in our favour.

We now go on to play San Angelo (who got a forfeit win from SMU) in San Marcos this weekend, March 1st.

Thanks to all the parents, girlfriends and freinds (and even some old boys) who came out to support the guys on the weekend, the support is always appreciated! Hope to see you all this weekend.

Cheers, Nick.

Baylor Heads to the Post Season

Baylor had a pivotal game this past weekend versus UNT (in Denton), but the game was canceled due to field conditions. Baylor begged UNT to come to Waco to play this very important match to determine home field advantage for the Quarter Finals Match. For some reason the TRU handed down split points between the two teams rather than making UNT forfeit the match.

Unfortunately that means that Baylor now has to travel to the University of Dallas this weekend and UNT gets to host a playoff game.

That being said the Baylor RFC could use all the support of any friends and family of the program living whom live in the Dallas area.

Good luck this weekend guys!!!
