And on the 8th day, God created rugby.
And God set this game of rugby apart from all other games and sports and deemed Saturday to be a rugby day. And so it was and is and forever shall be. And this past Saturday was no different.
This past Saturday marked the beginning of Baylor rugby’s quest for 15s rugby glory and at times, it was a rocky. At other times, it was magnificent. In the end, the Austin Blacks score on the referee’s card tallied higher than that of the men of Baylor rugby but more can be told than a final score can tell. “In the end, especially in a friendly scrimmage like this, your main goal is to take a step forward, even if a small one, which I believe we did today”, commented Coach Nick Lane. “We were trying a bunch of guys at new positions and mixing in old guys with new ones and overall, I feel like we played hard rugby today yet we still have much to improve on”. Coach Josh Neff also had an optimistic outlook on the proceedings while still remaining realistic on the goals of the club. “We definitely have a long way to go. A long long way to go. But every journey starts with a single step, and I believe we took that step today”.
With continued guidance from the coaches and persistent effort from the veterans and rookies alike, the BURFC will continue to make significant strides towards 15s rugby glory. Our journey is a long one, and it will be rough at times, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Because Baylor hurts all.
