Baylor 19 MSU 10
Baylor travelled to Wichita Falls on Sat Feb 7th to play in our 3rd cup match. MSU won the toss and decided to play with the wind. Baylor got off to a great start from the kick off. MSU maintained pressure on us, keeping us in our half until around the 25th minute, fullback Lloyd Sherman kicked down field. Lloyd and winger James White chased the kick. James got a lucky bounce and the ball landed in his hands where he took it in for our first try. Lloyd Sherman made the difficult conversion, putting Baylor in front 7-0. MSU got a penalty just before the half time leaving the score at 7-3.
Baylor planned to take advantage of the wind in the second half and we actually managed to do that for the 1st 20mins, a good run from centre Chris Brown put Baylor in MSU’s 22m and few phases later hooker and captain John Schnacke crossed over for a 5 pointer. Lloyd converted the try and Baylor were up 14-3. Only 5 minutes later, replacement centre Travis Bonning made a good hard run up the centre of the field and set the team up in great position. A few phases later, lock Josh Dewalt crossed over for our third and final try. Unfortunately Lloyd could not convert this time, leaving the score at 19-3. We were up on the scoreboard and in a strong position, unfortunately we lets ourselves down. Over the last 15 minutes, Baylor had 18 penalties against us. MSU managed to score a try after Baylor was matched down the field from 4 penalties in a row. MSU converted the try and left the score at 19-10.
This was another win, putting us at 3-0 for cup matches. Though if we continue to switch off mentally against better sides we may not be so lucky in the future.
