In what has become a can’t miss event for Baylor Rugby the 2018-19 team will kick off it’s season with the annual Alumni match on Saturday Sept 1st at 11am. Alumni from around the country will gather and see if they still “got it” as they take on the back-to-back Red River North champions. Last year’s match was rescheduled from Labor Day weekend due to the flooding in Texas but the Labor Day weekend festivities are back this year. This event is fun for all ages as we will have a bounce house for kids and hopefully plenty of shade for spectators.
The festivities kick off the night before with a meet and greet for players, alumni and supporters at Coach’s BBQ in Downtown Waco starting at 6:30pm. On Saturday the fun begins with the match that kicks off at 11am. Following the match, we will gather at Shorty’s Pizza for some candid recaps of the day’s highlights with an added sprinkle or two of “in my day” folklore storytelling. Finally to cap off the day we will tailgate together before the opening football game which starts at 7pm.
Outside of the competition on the pitch, the alumni will be also be competing against each other to see which era can donate the most to the Baylor Rugby Foundation. For those of you wanting to get ahead of the game, feel free to start your contributions now by visiting the donation page. The club relies heavily on the generosity of alumni and supporters each year to help us maintain our winning legacy.
The event is a great opportunity for alumni and supporters to fall in love again with Waco, Baylor, and of course Baylor Rugby. So much has changed over the years and witnessing the growth first hand is a great way to reengage with the Baylor Rugby family. We are at a very exciting time in our history and need all the support we can get to achieve our lofty goals.
