Baylor travelled to the annual Cowtown tournament on the weekend of October 5th. Upon our arrival we were suprised to have been placed in the premier college division, along with A&M, Rice and TX Tech. Probably something to do with the fact we won the open college division last year. Each team played each other and the winner was decided by points allocated for a win or loss (coin toss in the event of a draw). The games were 20 min halves.
First up we played A&M and got off to a great start, going into half time leading 12-5. Two tries were scored by centre Travis Bonning and a conversion by captain Lloyd Sherman. A&M got their act together in the 2nd half and came out firing in the 2nd half, scoring 4 tries to our 1. Halfback, Chad, with a brialliant individual effort scored our only try of the seciond half. Final Score 27-19.
Texas Tech was our next game and they proved to be a tough oppenent. Baylor played well, holding out in some tough defensive situations close to our line. The final score was 12-12. One try was scored by flanker ‘Andy’ and the other by debutant ‘Matt’ (zulu Warrior), 1 conversion by Lloyd Sherman. Lloyd was also lucky enough to win the coin toss after this game atually giving Baylor a ‘win’.
Our final game for the day was against Rice. The team pulled it together in this last game, with the forwards leading form the front, all 4 tries were scored by forwards. Baylor was on the front foot from the start, consistent pressure, good recycling and good passing, Baylor won 24-6. An impressive note with this game, no tries scored against us. Tries: Josh Dewalt (2), No 8 Tim, Lucas. Conv:Lloyd Sherman (2).
Well done to all the players that travelled up to Cowtown, that was a great effort considering we only travelled with 23 players. Thanks to all the parents, family, friends and supporters that were there to cheer us on, even the couple of old boys who jumped in to help out in the last game.
Next up we travel to Nacacogdoches this weekend to play SFA and then our first cup match on Nov 9th at TCU.
